Creative Sports Challenges / Kings Court

LI: To create a new sports challenge/game for the class to play using our prior knowledge of sports.

Over the past week, LS2 has been working collaboratively in groups to create a unique and competitive sport challenge. We did multiple challenges that lead up to the making of our official game, which includes making the mascot, a chant and a costume.

Some things we had to include in our game was safety rules, a scoring system, a list of the equipment we need, a map out of the playing area and we had to make sure to bulletpoint information so it is easy to read.

Our group’s game is called King’s Court and it is a tournament-style dodgeball game. To play, there are 5 groups of 7. Team 1 and Team 2 will verse first. Then Team 3 and 4 will verse while Team 5 rests. Next, teams 3 and 4 will rest while the winner between Team 1 and 2 will verse Team 5. This will continue until the end of the game. At the end, the losing teams will merge and the winning teams will merge. These teams will finally verse.

This activity and task helps us to become familair with using our prior knowledge and apply our thinking to our learning, as well as working collaboratively with a large group of people.

T-ball | P.E

Yesterday we took a t-ball session with Kelly Sports. Our coach (Cameron) taught us the proper rules of t-ball.

First, we played a game of a noodle tag as our warm up. People who had the noodles practiced batting by tagging people with the noodle with both hands on the item.

Next, we got straight into a game of t-ball. To win we used the different methods that coach Cameron to get the other team out. A way we used to get the runner out was by putting the ball back on the tee before they got to their base. The runner can also get themself out if they hit the tee or miss the ball, which is called a strike. If they get three strikes they are out. Once three people get out we swap roles. We played against two different teams.

We enjoyed doing this activity because one we knew the rules and how we could play it efficiently, we were able to get points.

Kelly Sport : Cricket

Yesterday LS2 did cricket, coached by Bart who was from Kelly Sport. We learnt the basic skills on how to throw and catch the ball efficiently. To do this we did a warm up on battlers vs fielders.

To start off with the first activity we did a warm up, and the class were divided into 2 groups and 1 group needed to remove the ball from the cones, and the fielders needed to put it back, we also had a timer and this was to see which group still had the most balls on the cones at the end.

Next we threw and caught the ball with our partners. We needed to catch with 2 hands, and when the ball is low you catch it with your hands pointing to the ground, and when the ball is thrown up we need our finger to the sky. The thrower had to underarm throw so it was going to be easier for the person who was going to catch it.

Then we did a team challenge, but we needed to be divided into 2 groups. As a group we needed to knock over the cones and whichever group had the most cones down won the game.

Lastly we played a class game of non-stop cricket. The game was to catch and throw the ball to the thrower and keep our eyes on the ball. The other team needed to hit the ball as far as they could and run around the cone so that the other person could hit next.

I enjoyed doing this activity because I learnt the basics on how to play cricket, and playing a game of cricket. A skill I needed to practise was batting and having good timing when batting the ball.
